What is a Sick Leave in COL?

A Sick Leave in Colombia (COL) is an economic benefit in Colombia provided by Health Promotion Entities (EPS) to affiliates who cannot perform their work due to physical or mental health issues.

My employee is not yet a regular employee, are they eligible for this?

Yes, employees that are under the probationary period and regular employees are eligible for this benefit. Additionally, employees should be registered and contributing to Colombian Social Security System. Employees should also present a medical certificate which should be attached to the leave request.

How would this look like in my invoice/billing?

For the first two days of sick leave, the employer covers 100% of the employee’s salary. Starting from the third day, the employer is responsible for paying 66.7% of the employee’s salary.

Filta will then file a reimbursement claim with the employee's healthcare entity (EPS) , and once the reimbursement is credited to us, we will credit that amount to the client.

Note: the reimbursement process can take 1 to 6 months, depending on the EPS timelines. Each time a new medical certificate is issued, the same rule applies—100% for the first two days and 66.7% from the third day onwards.
