Colombia Holidays and Additional Charges

In Colombia, holidays are public holidays that includes both religious and civic holidays. Some of these holidays are fixed, while others follow the Law 51 of 1983, which allows certain holidays to be moved to the nearest Monday.

Additional Charges if an employee worked on a holiday

As per Article 179 of the Labor Code, when a Colombian employee works on a public holiday or Sunday, they are compensated at 175% of their regular hourly wage. This extra pay, added on top of their salary, also increases the basis for government contribution calculations, leading to additional costs for social security and other mandatory benefits.
