What Do I Do When There is a Power Interruption in the Philippines?
In the event of Power Interruptions the employees are responsible to maintain a stable and reliable remote work setup. This includes ensuring continuous internet connectivity and the ability to continue working during power disruptions.
The Remote Business Continuity Plan for Power Interruption is designed to sustain essential operations by making sure that the remote employees are ready to work through both short-term (within the day) and long-term power disruptions.
What are the Policy and Timeframes?
- The employees are required to establish an alternative work location and resume their duties within a 2 hour timeframe in the event of a power or internet interruption.
- Non-compliance with this requirement may result in the employee being classified as absent or having undertime recorded.
What Should Employees Prepare?
To minimize work disruption and ensure seamless operations, employees are expected to take the following preparatory steps:
Backup Power: Employees are encouraged to maintain a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for short-term protection or to have a backup power supply like a portable generator/power station for extended work.
Connectivity Backups: Identify secondary internet sources such as mobile data hotspots or USB tethering to use if the primary router fails.
Cloud-Based Tools: Ensure all critical work is saved in the cloud-based tools like Google Drive or alike to allow access from any device with a connection.
Device Readiness: Keep laptops, phones, and backup batteries/powerbanks fully charged in anticipation of scheduled/unscheduled power outages or maintenance.
Coworking Space: If ongoing power outages are expected, access to a coworking space can be arranged by submitting a ticket at the Filta Client Support Portal.
Please submit this ticket at least one week in advance or at least 24 hours before (for emergency cases or in the event of sudden power interruptions) before intended use. In the interim, remote employees must continue to have their own arrangements in place to ensure consistent power and internet connection.
How Should the Employees Communicate This?
In a remote or hybrid work environment, consistent connectivity is critical to daily operations. In the event of an unexpected power or internet outage, immediate communication is required to effectively manage client expectations and team workflows. Employees must follow these protocols if they experience a loss of power:
Notification: Employees must notify their direct supervisor within 1 hour via SMS, phone call, or mobile data as soon as the outage occurs.
Contact Info: Employees should ensure they have all their managers and member partner contact details ready for any possible future power or internet outage.
Status Update: Ensure timely updates are provided, including an estimated time of restoration if information is accessible via the utility provider's outage map or alerts.
What Do the Employees Need to Prioritize?
While resolving connectivity issues is the primary focus during an outage, maintaining productivity and minimizing delays are equally important. To ensure business continuity and protect client deliverables, employees are expected to manage their workload proactively by prioritizing the following actions:
Offline Work: If the laptop has battery, continue tasks that do not require an active internet connection.
Task Redistribution: If unable to work, employees need to coordinate with their manager to shift urgent responsibilities to team members in unaffected areas.
